The 11th Fips-Mouche Youth World Fly Fishing Championships, France 2012
The 11th Fips-Mouche Youth World Fly Fishing Championships are taking place in the Lozére Region in France from the 8th to the 15th July 2012 with the competition itself being held from Wednesday the 11th July to Friday the 13th July.
There are four river sessions and on lake session (from a boat). The designated for the championship are the Lot (Upper), Lot (Lower), Colagne and Allier while the lake session is on Charpal Lake. The river beats will be an average of 350 metres in length and following on from the World Youths in Italy this year one of the river sessions (the session on the Upper Lot) is dry fly only with only one dry (floating) fly being allowed.
The eligible species on the river sessions are brown trout and grayling while on the lake session the eligible species are roach, perch and pike.

2011 Youth Inter-Provincial Lake & River Championships
A big thanks to the Connaught Angling Council for hosting both the Youth Inter-Provincial Lake and River Championships on Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th September 2011. Both competitions proved to be very successful and were fished on a catch and release basis.
The Youths Inter-Provincial Lake Championship took place on the Saturday on the Gowla and Athry Fisheries in Connemara. Congratulations to Kenneth Cormican (Connaught) who is the 2011 Youth Inter-Provincial Lake Champion. Kenneth had a great day on the lakes catching 12 trout in total and also the largest trout of the day (50cm’s). Sean Dempsey (Leinster) was second just ahead of Finbarr Carroll (Munster) who was third. Munster won the Inter-Provincial Lake Championship ahead of Connaught, Leinster and Ulster.

The Youths Inter-Provincial River Championship took place the following day in very testing conditions on the Clare River in Tuam, Co. Galway. The 2011 Youths Inter-Provincial River Champion is Ian Howard (Munster). Fergal McKiernan (Leinster) was second just ahead of his fellow Leinster team-mate Michael Conroy who was third. Leinster won the Inter-Provincial River Championship ahead of Munster and Connaught. The largest trout was caught by Colin O’Reilly (Munster) 31cm’s.

2011 Youth Inter-Provincial Lake Championship
Below are the details of the 2011 Youth Inter-Provincial Lake Champiosnhip being held on Saturday 17th September
The Youth Interprovincial lake competition will be held on the Gowla & Athry Fisheries. These fisheries are part of the Zetland Country House Hotel http://www.zetland.com and are being made available by Mr. Colm Redmond.
The format will be as follows
- 3 sectors consisting of 2 Wild lakes and 1 rainbow (Loch na nÓiléain & Loch Uí Ghríofa)
- 3 sessions over the day (lakes are < 10 mins walk/car from each other)
- Rotation of pegs every 20 minutes (each angler moves 2 pegs)
- 12-14 anglers per sector with 6 stewards. Stewards do not rotate for afternoon sessions.
The length of the sessions are:
• Session 1 11.20-13.00
• Lunch 13.00-14.00
• Session 2 14.10-15.50
• Session 3 16.20- 18.00
Registration will be from 9.30am until 10.30am at the Hotel bar. Dinner & presentations in the evening. There will be 2 sittings for dinner, I ask that only those who are returning home sit first. Dinner is available for guests or travelling companions at a rate of €20.00, must be paid on the morning. The €45 entrance fee covers dinner for the angler and steward (18 stewards in total).
Lunch is the responsibility of the angler/steward. Safety is paramount, each angler is requested to wear a lifejacket, hat and safety glasses failure to do so will disqualify them.
Rules of the competition will be posted on the day. The following is a synopsis of the main points:
1. Each trout must be measured from head to the fork for the tail, 150mm is the lower limit, a trout over 150mm will be rounded up, i.e 155mm to 160mm
2. If a steward from the anglers province is found to have measured, recorded, advised or interfered in any way with the angler, the angler will be disqualified and the province fined.
3. The competition is on a catch and release basis only.
4. Sea trout will count, salmon will not.

2011 TAFI Youth Inter-Provincial Fly-Tying Championship
Congratulations to all the Youths that took part in the TAFI Youth Inter-Provincial Fly-Tying Championship that was held in the GAA Sports Complex in Mallow, Co. Cork on Saturday 26th February 2011. Twenty six youths from all four provinces took part and the standard displayed on the day was superb. A massive thanks to all the Provincial Youth Officers for getting the youths to compete and tie to such a high standard. Also thanks to the Mallow Trout angling club that hosted the event and to Alice Conba the chief judge who had the tough job of marking the youths.

The Youths World Fly Fishing Championship is being held in Italy this year and is taking place from Tuesday 30th August to Thursday 1st September.
There is 5 River sessions in total and the rules of the championship specifies that only one fly is allowed. The size limit is 20cm’s and grayling, rainbow trout and brown trout are the eligible fish species.
The first 6 from the 2010 Youth Inter-Provincial River Championship will be eligible to fish for Ireland in the World Youth Championships in Italy. Invites have been sent out to the first six anglers for places on the Irish Youth Team.
